Discourage compensation politics, says PPA

ITANAGAR, Mar 19: The People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) today called upon the people of the state to develop positive mindset and discourage the 'Compensation Politics' in whatever form in greater interest of Arunachal's development.

Addressing a party meeting on development aspects in the state including construction of the Hollongi Airport, the PPA president Kahfa Bengia said that with the tempo of development coming up at fast pace in Arunachal in the form of projects like Highways, Airport, Hydropower and introduction of railways, the people in the state should be ready with positive mindsets and shed and discourage 'Compensation Politics'.

"It is unfortunate that the much talked about proposed Airport project at Bandewdewa had to be stalled because of the sudden change of proposed project site at Hollongi along the Assam boundary where the compensation costs is estimated to be running into crores," the PPA said. However, the Party president Bengia exhorted everybody to think of only the project first as it symbolizes the state interest. "All the civil societies, student organizations and political parties should untidily exert upon the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India to start the project at the earliest, retorted Kahfa Bengia.

Expressing concern over the erection of concrete structures like residential buildings and plantation of various trees along the highway projects, the party president said "bad ideas are always contagious and these negative precedents should be out-rightly condemned in toto by one and all."

The Govt of Arunachal should initiate healthy discussions on important issues involving all political parties like the steps needed to be taken to safeguard the sanctity of ILP (Inner Line Permit) with the introduction of railways in the state which though is a positive sign of development, added Kahfa Bengia.

Pan Arunachalee identity

Dear Editor,

Pan Arunachalee Identity through saffron cap of the BJP or the Nehru cap of the Congress will only divide the Arunachalees on the lines of the party politics. While the BJP is driven by the RSS ideology of the dominances, the congress ideology is based on appeasing the minority in the name of secularism. While it is true when Rijiju says that Arunachal is land of plenty but without governance, it is equally true that the mainstream parties like the BJP and Congress themselves are responsible for reducing the state and its people to the status of slavery and serfdom.

The defective statehood bill of 1987 has snatched away everything from the control of the Arunachalees. The vast natural resources like the Jal, Jameen and Jungle, the unparalleled cultural resources are simply owned by the central govt. unlike the state of Nagaland which has been placed under article 370(A) and has full control over their underground as well as over ground resources.

Arunachal is placed under article 371(H) such a draconian provision was opposed by the PPA and AAPSU in 1980 and 1990 but their voices were simply crushed by the so called power political party of the mainstream of India. Although there is a late realisation of the follies committed by the Congress leadership and moved a resolution in state assembly for appropriate amendment of the constitution, the matter is still pending in the cold storage of the union home ministry. Now that Rijiju is at the helm of affairs and he has been apprised of the grievances on number of occasions, it is therefore understood that he tables the amendment proposed in the floor of the parliament. Going by his pre-poll promises in social media platforms, it is accepted that Rijiju practices what he preaches. Failure to address the issue would mean putting the Arunachaleese under the syndrome of  dependency and the culture of the begging bowl. Pan Arunachal identity, according to me is giving the Arunachalee their rights over their natural and cultural resources and letting them decide their own destiny.

This is possible only when the defective statehood Act is amended at the earliest and let Arunachalee decide as to what want to do and how they do with their own god gifted resources. Million dollar question therefore is will Rijiju make an effort or he like any other tribal leader from the mainstream parties succumb to the pressure of his political master and the corporate giant of the mainland India.

Yours,

Rillang Chege

Negligence by postal dept

Dear Editor,

There has been an utter negligence from the postal officials of Itanagar Arunachal Pradesh in delivering service to us. The department has knowingly delayed in dispatching the Passport parcel sent from Guwahati of my son Ngurang Nyakum.  The letter was dispatched on 12th March 2015 from Guwahati and reached here at Itanagar on 14th March 2015 and was to reach Kimin Post Office by 15th March.

The Department purposely delayed in delivering service resulting in the hindrance of the official process for obtaining visa. The matter is a very serious issue relating to my son's professional career as he is suppose to participate in a football tournament to be held in Spain on 28 March 2015.

According to official information from Itanagar, the Driver Deori carrying the important document have left for Ziro only today in spite of the movement order given to him on 16th March.  He travelled via Doimukh - Potin road by passing Kimin intentionally resulting again in delay for one day.

Yours,

Ngurang Pinch

A road that lasted 15 days

Dear Editor,

When re-blacktopping of various roads in the township area of Aalo begins, people held a sigh of relief that after about fifteen years the Aalo township was going to have a facelift. But it is a shame for everyone that the newly built roads didn't even lasted fifteen days. The earlier worn-out roads were far better than these newer ones. It is very unfortunate that although there are around three sitting MLAs, three ex-MLAs and three former ministers and not to talk about the uncountable public and students' organizations headquartered in the town, but no one seems to be concerned about the matter. Yes, we are responsible for our sorrowful condition. Come let's wait for another fifteen years again for re-blacktopping of our Aalo town roads!

Yours,

Jirken Bagra

Panya village,

Aalo

Mature decision

The Nagaland Government has made mature decision by deciding to hand over the investigation of the lynching of a rape accused in judicial custody by a mob at Dimapur, to the Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI.  The incident invited widespread attention nationally and internationally. Demands were made by several organizations, and also due to involvement of large number of people in the incident, the government decided to hand over the case to CBI.

Though everyone condemns the rape incident, the manner in which public lynched the alleged accused does not augur well for the legal justice system of the country. Also some anti-social elements tried to give communal colour to the incident.  The situation had gone so bad that home ministry had to issue alert notice to some state government to take care of the safety and security of NE people. The attempts were also made to malign the image of victim with different kind of false stories being circulated about her character and her background. The incident also damaged the image of NE region. Hopefully CBI enquiry will unearth the whole truth, so that justice prevails.
